What is SDA?
Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is housing designed for people with an extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. SDA homes are built to the NDIS SDA Design Standard, with features like step-free access, wider doorways, accessible bathrooms and, in some homes, ceiling hoists or on-site overnight support rooms.
SDA pays for the home itself. The day-to-day support you receive in the home is funded separately, often as Supported Independent Living (SIL). Knowing the difference helps you understand exactly what “my SDA” covers.
Is SDA in my NDIS plan?
SDA appears as its own line item in your NDIS plan. If it is funded, your plan usually names a design category, and sometimes a building type and location. If you are unsure, your support coordinator or NDIS planner can confirm it.
